Spring Retreat Deadline!

This Sunday, April 8 is the deadline to sign up for our Spring Retreat.  Sign-up is accomplished by way of payment and the cost is $70

Spring Break-fast for Lunch - This Wednesday March 14 - Noon

We are going to gather at the building and cook some breakfast for Lunch. Just a reason to get together and hang out during their spring break for those that don’t have anything going on! We are indeed having our normal meeting Wednesday night so if someone just needs to stay at the building and hang out after lunch, they are welcome to do that!

Spring retreat - April 20-22 

We will be traveling to Citronelle, AL to spend the weekend at Camp Whispering Pines.  The cost will be $70 and the deadline to sign up by way of payment will be April 8.  

Interns

Well It’s Spring break which means summer is approaching at a rapid pace!  As usual, I am super pumped about our summer and can not wait to get things rolling.  Summer time is the life blood of a youth group and allows us to go and do so many great things that we just cant do during the busy school year.  Another great thing about summer… Interns.   Interns bring so much value to the summer in so many different ways and Im excited to introduce them to you!

Robbie Lybarger is from Troy, Ohio and attends Lee University where he is a Biblical and Theological Studies Major.

Neeley is from Cleveland, TN and also attends Lee University where she is studying “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)” and is minoring in Linguistics and Discipleship Ministries

Wednesday Nights

I just wanted to take a second to encourage you to encourage your teens to come on Wednesday nights if they are available.  Wednesday night gatherings are the most important time we have together as far as developing direction and going deeper.  With that being said, I am going to be putting in an exerted effort to make Wednesdays better. One element of making them better is to have everyone there!  Thanks for your help in trying to get them there!

Just keeping it simple…. We will be gathering to watch a football game.  Your family is invited… just bring some delightful food for all to devour. (College group will be joining us, so maybe bring a little extra) 

Upcoming Family Groups Host Sign Up.

I know this doesn’t necessarily apply to all, but I wanted to just open this request up to everyone.  On Sunday nights the teens meet together in their “family group”.  For this semester we are going to be changing things up just a bit and for the second and fourth Sunday of each month we will be doing more active service/evangelistic opportunities.  For the first and third Sunday of each month we would like to meet for discussion in actually homes instead of the normal environment of the youth room.  Sooooo, if any of you would be willing to host a family group meeting in your home, I would love to take you up on that offer.  You can sign up for a date here: www.volunteersignup.org/MXQYK

UY Family Group

We will be away on our leadership retreat this weekend so there will be no UY Family group this upcoming Sunday.  We will kick off the semester the following Sunday night, January 21 at 6:00pm.

Nicaragua Interest Meeting - Wednesday, January 17, 5:30pm - Teen Area

We will have a brief meeting next Wednesday about our trip to Nicaragua this summer.  By showing up to this meeting you aren’t committing to anything but if you do have interest in going and cant make it, please let me know.  This will dictate largely on how the trip will shape up and come together. 

Movie Hang night - January 20 - 6:00pm - Teen Room

We shall gather to watch a movie!

Holidays, DHR and the Beach

Christmas Party - December 10 - 6:00pm - Teen Area

It is indeed Christmas time and therefore a Christmas party must be had.  Ours will be this upcoming Sunday!  This is for teens and families of teens.  Just a few things to know before arriving to the party.

1. If everyone could, please bring some sort of delicious finger food/dish. Ill just leave it wide open but if you could, click HERE to indicate what you will be bringing just so everyone knows what their competition is and we can see how things are shaping up.
2. As always, teens will continue our Christmas ornament competition.  This is simply a handmade crafted ornament that displays the most fun and creativity. Most creative ornament will win a stellar prize.  
3. Teens are to bring a gift for the gift exchange.  Only parameter is they can’t buy it.  It has to be something they already have that they are willing to part ways with….. and try and make it something someone else would actually want to have.

DHR Foster Parent's night out - December 17th - 5:00pm-8:00pm
We have an outstanding opportunity to serve our community in a unique way.  The youth group and families, along with some other small groups will be hosting a night for Parents with foster kids to have a night out.  This will allow those parents to have a small break to get some Christmas shopping done or just have a night to themselves.  I just want to encourage anyone who can help serve that night to do so... Thanks!  

Leadership Retreat - Jan 12-15 - Gulf Shores, AL - $50

This is for those in the 10th grade-12th grade. Our leadership retreat is quickly approaching and the deadline to sign-up will be Sunday, December 31.  Sign-up achieved by way of payment.

Teens will be assisting in kid craze giving the parents of the younger ones a night off.

Yep, its that time again to start thinking about all the different Christmas functions to go to.  Ours will be at the stated date and time above and more details on what to bring later!

Leadership Retreat - January 12-15

Those in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade will be having a leadership retreat designed to equip and motivate them to reach their full capacity of leadership.  More details on this to come but just wanted to get the dates out there.  That’s a Friday through Monday (MLK day)

Foster kids Christmas

The UY committed to 2 kids for our foster kids “Give a Christmas”. I have been using this as an opportunity to teach them about giving so I just wanted to make you aware in case you wanted to use this opportunity as well.  This is not supposed to be something they come to you and ask for money for, I really do want it to be some sort of sacrificial giving on their part, no matter how small it might be.  So far we are half way to our goal and they are doing fantastic!
